Overview
The Fortress is a luxury hotel in Galle by Koggala beach in Sri Lanka. Galle is a thriving town and considered one of the ancient world's most strategic ports being en route from Arabia to the Orient. Legend has it, King Solomon used the harbor to ship Sri Lankan ivory. Latterly, the Portuguese, Dutch and English governed the island but it was the vast Dutch fort at Galle that has left the most indelible mark.

The Fortress is a fusion of contemporary chic and five-star luxury. It stands by Koggala beach, its great walls enveloping a host of facilities such as a garden with water features, a Sri Lankan tea room, the Aquum Spa with its choice of Ayurvedic or international therapies, a yoga pavilion, gym, free-flow swimming pool, pool side pizzeria, bars and a wine cellar. There are five distinct styles of accommodation that overlook the garden or the sea providing a total of 49 rooms and two suites. Features include the latest in entertainment systems, day beds and hammocks. The dining options range from authentic Sri Lankan dishes to international cuisine with a stunning choice of wines.
Location: The Fortress is right next to Koggala beach near the Sri Lankan port of Galle which is home to the UNESCO world heritage Dutch Fort and the Dutch Reform Church. Koggala is a small beach village with its own cultural centre in the guise of the fascinating museum of Folk, Art & Culture. Take a boat trip in the lagoon and Kogggala Lake to see the surrounding small islands, famous for bird watching. The Fortress is located 140 kilometers from Colombo International Airport .
Accommodation
Fortress Rooms - The Fortress Rooms have high ceilings and multilayered floors, featuring a super king 7 ft by 7 ft bed dressed in Egyptian cotton and an open plan bathroom with rainfall shower. These rooms open out onto superb views of The Fortress Gardens and feature wall. In addition, all rooms present a first-class entertainment system and designer fittings that include Plasma screens, Bose DVD players and sound
systems, espresso machines, air-conditioning, overhead fans, private bars, day beds, in-room safes, IDD telephone.
Beach Rooms - Located on the ground floor these guest rooms offer views into the gardens and Indian Ocean beyond. Key features of these rooms are the open plan rooms with large built-in baths.
Ocean Rooms - The Ocean rooms, similar to Beach Rooms, feature high vaulted ceilings and are located on the upper floor of The Fortress. Guests also have the added bliss of enjoying a bath in the Jacuzzi whilst taking in the magnificent views.
Ocean Lofts - These split-level rooms feature two separate floors. Guests enter into an oversized living room with indoor plunge pool, inviting day beds with plasma screens and Bose Sound Systems. The upstairs houses the bedroom showcasing a designer bed adorned in soft Egyptian cotton and day bed. The upstairs bathroom feature rainfall and wall showers.
Fortress Residences - The ultimate say in sensual living spaces, The Fortress Residences are both on the upper floor of The Fortress and feature 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, separate living area, entertainment area, and outdoor dining deck. Also, the Residences each feature a private cantilevered pool with infinity edge offering magnificent views of the coastline. Guests staying in these rooms are pampered by their 24 hour personal butler, catering to their every whim.
